Ⅰ (Neo-Japonism Immersive Theater Original Sound Track)

NHK Works' "I (Neo-Japonism Immersive Theater Original Soundtrack)" by Shuta Hasunuma was released digitally on July 18, 2025.

Hasunuma is in charge of the music for the exhibition "Immersive Theater: New Japonism - From Jomon to Ukiyo-e and Anime," which is running at the Tokyo National Museum in Tokyo until August 3. The venue displays national treasures and important cultural properties from the Tokyo National Museum's collection, as well as Jomon pottery, haniwa (Japanese haniwa), picture scrolls, armor, ukiyo-e, and even animation works, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a time-traveling experience of Japanese culture with powerful images and 3D sound.

Together with sound engineers Toshihiko Kasai, Jiro Kubo, and Tomoya Katsuta, Hasunuma created a spatial surround sound system that combined video and sound into one, surrounded by large LED panels on all sides, in the acoustic environment of Special Room 5 in the main building of the Tokyo National Museum, creating an acoustic experience that could only be experienced on-site.

In releasing these sounds, Hasunuma has utilized the mix created in the exhibition space and reconstructed the sound source using HPL binaural technology for optimal listening in a headphone environment, allowing listeners to experience an immersive soundscape even when they leave the exhibition space.
