The music event "In C-60th Birthday Full Moon Celebration at Kyoto Kiyomizu-dera Temple, July 21, 2024 - A dedication performance celebrating the 60th anniversary of the birth of "In C"" will be held on July 21st at the main hall stage of Otoyama Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto.
Terry Riley's piece "In C" premiered in 1964. Terry Riley had decided to "retire from performing this piece" after a concert held at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2009, but this event was realized at his own request to "celebrate the 60th birthday of "In C."
On the day of the full moon, in addition to Terry Riley, about 50 performers will be participating, including SARA (Sara Miyamoto), Kazutoki Umezu, Sachiko Nagata, Yumiko Ohno (Buffalo Daughter), Daikichi Yoshida, Shuta Hasunuma, and AYA. This will be the first time in 15 years that the composer himself will be participating.
On July 21st, we will be performing a dedication concert at Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the release of Terry Riley's "In C." I'm excited to hear that it will be an ensemble of 50 people.
