We are inviting internationally renowned Japanese artists to Nairobi, the capital of the Republic of Kenya, for workshops, lectures, and creative residencies. This is the second such program, following the "Nairobi Residency" in March 2011. This time, two artists will participate: artist Yukihiro Taguchi and musician Shuta Hasunuma. Not only will this program provide Japanese artists with a stimulating and thought-provoking creative environment in a contemporary African city, but it will also provide local residents and artists with a valuable opportunity to learn about new and unique expressive methods emerging from Japan in the contemporary era. The two artists will hold workshops throughout Nairobi, engaging with local residents in music and video production. The planned venues for the presentation of their works will be a popular restaurant bar where local residents regularly enjoy music and video, as well as the interior of a public transportation vehicle. A lecture for local artists will also be held at one of Nairobi's leading art centers, promoting exchanges between the artists and the program.

Let me introduce you to the artist who will be accompanying us, Mr. Taguchi.

Yukihiro Taguchi
Born in Osaka in 1980. After graduating from the Department of Oil Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2004, he established his base in Berlin and has participated in exhibitions, residencies, and art projects around the world, including in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Cuba, and the Maldives. He creates animated videos using stop-motion techniques with digital cameras in outdoor public spaces. By gradually shifting existing objects in everyday spaces, he creates fissures that lead to another imaginative world. The creative process itself, in which he intervenes in and reshapes the surrounding environment and human relationships, incorporates elements of workshops and performances. In 2008, he won the Excellence Award in the Art Division of the Japan Media Arts Festival held by the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the Excellence Award at the Asia Digital Art Awards. In 2011, he held a solo exhibition at the Mori Art Museum's MAM Project 014.
