Beppu Contemporary Art Festival 2015 'Mixed Bathing World' Mixed Bathing Hot Spring World

We are exhibiting at the Mixed Bathing Hot Springs World, an art festival held in Beppu every three years.

The work, "Memories of a Composer," is themed around composers who lived in Beppu before and after the war.
We have installed a musical piece called "Matsubara Onsen Ambient" which will be played once every hour at Matsubara Onsen.

Special Beppu Art Tour

Exhibition of artworks in an underground mall that was closed off over 50 years ago

Since the opening of Beppu Port in 1871 at the suggestion of Matsukata Masayoshi, Beppu has changed shape alongside Japan's modernization. Fortunately, the city escaped air raids, and the faint scent of various eras still hangs in the air. It's not a grand history, but the humble thoughts of countless people piled up, and present-day Beppu floats like a dream atop it. Deep within Beppu, in the normally inaccessible inner reaches of the city—in disused buildings, winding alleys, and quiet basements—artists interact with these places and weave their own stories. The Art Gate Cruise is an experience that stitches together these stories, a special journey through time and space that unfolds as you encounter the town's memories.
