NADiff Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by musician Shuta Hasunuma. Shuta Hasunuma was born in Tokyo in 1983. After making his debut on an American indie label, he began his career in Japan and has released many musical works through his work with the band "The Shuta Hasunuma Team" and the 15-member ensemble "The Shuta Hasunuma Philharmonic."

In recent years, he has applied the technique of composition to various media, presenting video, sound, sculpture and installation works, and actively working on collaborative works with various other artists. With flexible ideas and activities that are not bound by "form," he is actively engaged in solo exhibitions and projects.

This exhibition, "Absent Focus," will feature an installation work that combines music with footage collected from places Hasunuma has visited on his travels. The footage captures scenes from faraway places and the afterimages of time that has passed, attempting to create a spatialization of an "absence" that is no longer here, flickering with the music. This will be Shuta Hasunuma's response to the reach of the visual term "absent focus."

During the exhibition, Shuta Hasunuma's first collection of works, a record of his activities to date, will be released. NADiff will be running a sales campaign with special benefits for purchases in addition to the early release of the book.
For Hasunuma, who is scheduled to be in New York, USA at the invitation of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC), this exhibition will be his final opportunity to present his work in Japan in 2014.

Artist Statement
Thinking about someone who is not here, beyond the timeline of the past and future,
We have become a matter of course: we raise the memory of absence through repetition and persistence.
