Director Sunairi visited Fukushima from the United States in August 2011, wanting to see with his own eyes the situation in Fukushima after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. Four years later, in the summer of 2015, Sunairi returns to Fukushima with a ginkgo seedling from an exposed tree that he received from an arborist in Hiroshima. There, he reunites with taxi driver Koichi Tochikubo.
Synopsis
“air” takes place in a taxi with a 60-year-old driver, while traveling, observing and intimately conversing of the inescapable fact of life after the nuclear disaster in Fukushima. While busy streets of Tokyo swamp the sky of an unknown suspense, trees survived the atomic bombing of Hiroshima evokes a hope.
