"Shimaji Yasutake + Sakai Hana Altonoi New Work"
Special website http://altneu.jp/
The Saitama Arts Theater's "dancetoday" series began in 2009.
The third installment of our project, which allows viewers to experience experimental works by young choreographers and dancers active both in Japan and abroad, features a double bill of new works by two cutting-edge artists. Seki Kaori is a choreographer of note, having won both last year's Yokohama Dance Collection and the Toyota Choreography Award. She works on dance that appeals to the senses, incorporating even the subtlest of scents and textures. The other pairing features Shimaji Yasutake, who is active in the Forsythe Company led by William Forsythe and continues to create energetically in Japan, and Sakai Hana, one of Japan's leading ballet dancers, who has made her presence known with a rare expressiveness that goes beyond classical ballet, and who will co-choreograph a new piece with the newly formed unit "Altonoi."
